Bernardo Faria Shows A Cool 50/50 Heel Hook Finishing Detail

A lot of BJJ students have a love-hate relationship with the 50/50 position. Some love it because of the leg lock opportunities it harbors, whereas others feel frustrated because it can be used as a stalling position (especially in the gi).
Be it as it may, every BJJ athlete should become at least reasonably good with attacks from the 50/50; especially with Heel Hooks. However, there is one extremely frequent problem with finishing Heel Hooks from here… Bernardo Faria demonstrates what it is and how to solve it.

FINISHING THE HEEL HOOK FROM 50/50

Bernardo shows that, the moment a person locks in the Heel Hook, their opponents simply grab a hold of their top arm and break the grip. Then, as soon as they get the grip again, the opponent breaks it once more. So, how is a BJJ enthusiast supposed to deal with this “chain of breaks”?
It’s quite simple, actually. Bernardo learned it from Lachlan Giles.

The next time you have a Heel Hook locked in the 50/50 position and your training partner or opponent breaks your grip, extend your torso and hips. Then, regrip and go for the finish.
What you’ll find is that your opponent will have a much more difficult time to break the grips – simply because you’ll be further away from them!
