Musumeci shared his thoughts on the victory soon after:
The position I hit is called an Aoki Lock.
It’s a modified Heel Hook, but I learned this position from Shinya Aoki.
It’s his submission, that he invented.
And, considering that his opponent is about 13 years older than he is, Musumeci has nothing but respect:
When I think of what a master of Jiu-Jitsu is, it’s somebody that inspires another generation; and then they’re doing the positions that you created.
Shinya deserves so much credit. I did his move on him, so that’s like a master to student.
He’s an idol of mine for being forty years old, and still competing, and challenging himself. That’s a champion.

“Darth Rigatoni” went on the offensive immediately from the start of the match, looking to set up a leg entanglement against the Japanese mixed martial arts legend.
He soon got a deep grip on “Tobikan Judan”‘s leg, extended, and twisted the limb to secure his opponent’s own trademark submission.
Musumeci got the tap soon enough, improving his submission grappling career record to 63-5.
