ONE: Mikey Musumeci Submits Shinya Aoki – With The Aoki Lock

ONE Championship had an exciting event last Friday night, on October 6.
The “ONE Fight Night 15: Le vs. Freymanov” featured not just an exciting main, but equally fantastic undercard – which featured a number of awesome matches in MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and a submission grappling match…

Between Mikey Musumeci and Shinya Aoki!
And, even though Musumeci was considered to be a favorite going into the match, few could have predicted the way in which the bout ended.

“Darth Rigatoni” wet on the offensive immediately from his open guard, looking to set up a leg entanglement against the Japanese mixed martial arts legend.
He soon got a deep grip on “Tobikan Judan”‘s leg, extended, and twisted the limb to secure his opponent’s own trademark submission – the Aoki Lock!

Musumeci got the tap soon enough, improving his submission grappling career record to 63-5.

Tom DeBlass explained why the Aoki Lock is such a dangerous submission:

This was not just a normal Achilles lock Mikey Musumeci used.
It was a short Achilles lock (Aoki lock) that put extreme pressure on the MCL.

He caught Shinya’s toes in his armpit and then fell towards his shoulder.
The toes followed his shoulder while the heel pulled the opposite way.

It’s a brutal submission that can not only break the foot, but it can tear the knee.
