Souza’s journey in the ADCC began in 2003 at the inaugural South American ADCC Trials, where he won gold in the 88kg division.
This victory paved his way to the ADCC World Championship the same year. In his debut, Souza won a silver medal in the 88kg division – with his only defeat coming at the hands of Saulo Ribeiro, another 2024 ADCC Hall Of Fame member.

The 2005 ADCC Championship saw Souza’s rising dominance once again, as he conquered the 88kg division and competed in the absolute division as well – securing another silver medal, this time losing to Roger Gracie.

Souza’s ADCC journey reached its pinnacle in 2009, when he was invited to compete for the vacant superfight championship against Robert Drysdale – a match that Souza won.
He returned in 2011 to defend his title, ultimately losing to Braulio Estima.

With an impressive 11-3 record in ADCC competitions, Souza’s induction into the Hall of Fame is a testament to his exceptional skill and contributions to the sport.
