Fellipe Andrew – the reigning World, Pan-American, European, and Brazilian champion – will compete in the light heavyweight Grand Prix of the BJJ Stars 12 event…
And he is excited about it.
However, in preparation for this tournament, Fellipe will face an additional challenge – the weight cut.
Accustomed to competing in the super heavyweight division (100kg), he will need to shed weight to meet the light heavyweight limit (87kg).
Rather than being concerned, Andrew sees this as an extra source of motivation:
I’m very happy to be participating in another edition of BJJ Stars, not to mention the weight cut, which will be a bit challenging for me.
But that’s a good thing, because when I need to cut weight like that, I focus my mind 100% on the bigger goal, so there’s no room for mistakes.
Despite being a dominant force in the sport and having won numerous prestigious titles, Fellipe rejects the notion of being considered the overwhelming favorite to win the Grand Prix:
I don’t believe in favoritism in Jiu-Jitsu, because it’s a fight where anything can happen.
Let’s say I’m preparing hard for whatever happens and I have answers during every fight.
