Judge Authorizes Accused Killer Of Leandro Lo To Continue Receiving Police Salary

Henrique Velozo, lieutenant of the Military Police who is accused of killing the multiple-time BJJ world champion Leandro Lo, has been granted a favorable decision in the Court of Justice of São Paulo.

Velozo has been imprisoned since August 7, 2022, after shooting and murdering Lo.
And back at the end of the year, Rodrigo Garcia – who is a former governor of the state – had suspended payments to the police lieutenant.

However, just a couple of days ago, judge Márcio Ferraz Nunes has made a decision and authorized the return of payments to Velozo.
The reasoning behind this decision has been that Henrique Velozo hasn’t been tried and convicted just yet. Therefore, to suspend his salary would be unconstitutional – as this forms a part of the Statute of Civil Public Servants of São Paulo.

Leandro Lo’s family and their lawyer are intending to file an appeal in the next couple of days, in order to overturn this decision.

Additionally, the “Leandro Lo Institute” has scheduled a protest for March 23 (Thursday), in front of the government headquarters (as can be seen on the Instagram post below), calling upon everyone to wear a gi during the protest.

The first hearing in the case is scheduled for the day after, March 24 (Friday).
