Why did Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida start training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Well… The answer might surprise you.
Here’s what he had to say in a recent Jaxxon Podcast episode:
[It was because of] my sister. She’s three years older than me.When she was 15, we had, like, a soap opera in Brazil. And one of the main guys of the TV was, like, a Jiu-Jitsu instructor.
She saw that on the TV and was, like: “I want to train Jiu-Jitsu, I want to train Jiu-Jitsu.” Out of nowhere.
Their dad approved, but wanted to make sure that she was safe:
And my dad, you know, for our 15 year old daughter – you can’t say “no”.
So he said: “Okay, you can do it. But you know what? I want to try too.”But he was just trying to go, like, to watch her. Jiu-Jitsu [team] was, like, her, one more girl, and 20-30 guys at the practice.
So he wasn’t really comfortable, so he started going to watch her. Both of them started going every day and he started, like, enjoying it.
After some time, he asked Buchecha to start training as well.
And Marcus obliged, mostly because he wanted to spend more time with him:
And he was, like: “You know what, you should try too.”
But I was, like, 12 years old… “You know, I don’t really care [about BJJ]…”But, at the end of the day, it was a good way to spend time with my dad and my sister. And my dad used to work a lot.
I enjoyed it too, to hang out with them.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
