Going Through A Break Up And Feeling Down? BJJ Can Help Out

Going Through A Break Up And Feeling Down? BJJ Can Help Out

You’ve probably experienced that sinking feeling; the one as if the world is crushing around you and as if you can’t really find your place in it anymore. Break ups are never a fun experience, as they leave you to navigate the space around yourself without the compas, that your beloved has once been. These moments will sting for sure… But you can do a lot of things so as to keep pushing forward.
That is to say – it’s especially important to keep training BJJ during these times, as doing so can help you get over the rough patch.

CAN’T THINK ABOUT THE BREAK UP IF SOMEONE’S TRYING TO TAP YOU OUT

The biggest thing BJJ will do for you is in the training sessions themselves. All of those warmups, drills, positional sparring and live rolling will basically „force“ you to be present; to not think about the heartache you’re going through. You know this! It’s just like any other problem you face in life – it sort of dissipates for the time being, during the hours you spend on the mats.

To put it simply, you are present during training. You’re in the „now“ and nothing else exists other than this moment… And how could it, when your training partner is trying to squeeze the living daylights out of you? You just can’t think about anything else other than about what you have to do.

STAY HEALTHY WITH JIU JITSU

Furthermore, if you stay consistent in training you will also stay healthy. You’ve probably seen friends or acquaintances just foregoing their health after a tough break up; staying at home doing nothing, eating anything they can get their hands on and slouching in front of the TV the whole day.
Don’t let this happen to you. Just because you’re not interested in doing something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it, right?

Therefore, pack your Gi into the bag and make yourself appear on the mats, motivated or not. It will keep you active, it will elevate your heartbeat, make you sweat and burn those calories… Which, apart from making you healthier, will boost your confidence as well.

BJJ SERVES AS A CONFIDENCE BOOSTER

Know that feel-good energy that surges through your body after training? You’ve trained and you’re tired, you can’t wait to go to sleep… But you feel like a million bucks and as if you could achieve anything you want to!

That’s one of the most important things that Jiu Jitsu gifts your life with; through it, you gain more self-confidence. While on the mats, you encounter many obstacles and bad training sessions, lousy technique executions and being tapped out more times than you’d have courage to count. But you keep pushing and you keep showing up, despite anything else – and so you walk out of that gym and into life as a more confident person.
Keep training. A break up can wreck havoc on your self-confidence, and BJJ is a great remedy for it.

YOUR BJJ FRIENDS WILL HELP YOU GET THROUGH IT

Last but not least, it’s important to be surrounded by people you care about and that care about you when recovering from a failed relationship. By those which will be happy to talk with you and hear you out, and to just make you laugh and forget about all your worries for a moment or two altogether.
Your BJJ teammates are fantastic people to be with, and with some of them you became good friends with. Go and see them, talk to them and roll with them – you will be happy that you did.
