Andre Galvao Shows A Surprising Armbar Variation Setup

To properly execute an armbar from guard position in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you need to control your opponent and position your body and limbs correctly.

First, you want to secure a closed guard by wrapping your legs around your opponent’s torso. Once you have a closed guard, you need to break your opponent’s posture by pushing your feet into their hips. This will force them to lean forward and give you access to their arm.

Next, grab the wrist of the arm you want to armbar and pull it across your chest while trapping it with your arm. Make sure you control your opponent’s elbow with your opposite hand to stop them from pulling their arm away.

Now you can start to rotate your hips and kick your legs up to lift your opponent’s arm over your head. As you lift their arm up, straighten your legs and flare them out to the sides to create the armbar. This will hyperextend their elbow and put pressure on their shoulder.

So you’re in the search for interesting and unorthodox submission setups, right?
