Would Rickson Gracie Beat Carlson Gracie? Roger Gracie Shares His Thoughts

In a recent episode of the “Kyra Gracie Podcast”, Jiu-Jitsu legend Roger Gracie offered his insights into the often-debated topic of generational talent in the sport – particularly comparing himself with Rickson Gracie.

Roger Gracie, with his characteristic smile, expressed his belief that it is not “right” to directly compare generations in Jiu-Jitsu:

I think generations are incomparable.

You can’t compare them, especially when there’s such a long time between them, not one right after the other.
They are completely different generations.

Every generation is better than the previous one. This is true in all sports. You can’t compare.
The generation that comes is always better than the one that passed.

Further elaborating on the subject, Roger Gracie emphasized the impossibility of comparing figures like Rickson Gracie and Carlson Gracie:

Of course, Rickson, in his prime, would beat Carlson in his prime.
Carlson did what he needed to do in his time, the encouragement he had in his generation. It’s incomparable.

Each one has their different moments. The generation that comes is always better.
The generation that will come after mine will be better than I was.
