Roger Gracie Names His Biggest Jiu-Jitsu Opponents: “He Is By Far The Most Technical”

In a recent episode of the “Connect Cast” podcast, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Roger Gracie reflected on his illustrious career – sharing insights into his journey.
And well, among various topics, Roger identified the most formidable opponents he has faced in his career: Marcelo Garcia and Ronaldo Jacare.

He expressed his admiration for Marcelo Garcia‘s technical skills:

The most technical opponent I ever fought was Marcelo Garcia. I fought him twice.
The first time I managed to finish him in less than five minutes. The second time I won by a large margin of points, but I couldn’t finish him.

He is by far the most technical because you feel the physical tension of the person. The techniques he was using had no tension, so it’s pure technique.
He is good, despite me having beaten him. He didn’t put me in danger, but he swept me once, with no strength at all.

Technically, he is the best.

Regarding Ronaldo Jacare, Gracie described him as the toughest opponent he faced:

The toughest was Ronaldo Jacare.
He is very strong and had a very annoying, tough standing game.

He would pull guard so I wouldn’t go underneath.
On top, to hold him, he would break all grips, he came with strong pressure. He was the toughest.
