In the world of submission grappling and Jiu-Jitsu, two names often dominate the conversation: Gordon Ryan and Roger Gracie.
But… Who is better of the two – Roger or Ryan?
Well, legendary BJJ black belt Rodrigo Cavaca recently shared his thoughts on the topic in the “Connect Cast” podcast episode:
Today it is very difficult for Gordon Ryan to be defeated.
I see that he is much superior (to his opponents). He is more superior than Roger Gracie was in a kimono compared to his opponents, because the technical level at Roger’s time was more equal.
Today Ryan is further away, there’s no way.
He trains a lot, there’s no secret.
Cavaca continued to praise Ryan’s dedication and the influence of his coach, John Danaher:
He has a great coach on his side, an intelligent, studious guy…
He is dedicated, has a strong mind and the results make that mind even stronger. This is a consequence of training.
It was not born ready, it was built, built and the results appeared.Today it’s very difficult for anyone to beat him without a kimono.
Maybe whoever is going to beat him one day hasn’t even shown up yet.
