Nicholas Meregali Not Satisfied With The RNC Finish Against Matheus Diniz: “I Didn’t Want That”

Nicholas Meregali continued his impressive win streak last weekend, at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6 in Las Vegas (USA).

In a highly anticipated matchup, Meregali faced off against 2019 ADCC champion Matheus Diniz – and secured victory with a skillfully applied Rear Naked Choke.
However, Meregali – ever the perfectionist – expressed disappointment in his post-fight interview with UFC Brasil.

Despite the win, Meregali revealed he had initially hoped to finish the fight with an Armbar – a technique he had openly aimed to achieve in the lead-up to the event, as shared on social media.

Here’s what he had to say:

My arm went too deep into the choke.
I even shook my head (negatively)… Damn, I didn’t want that.

But I decided after about 4 or 5 seconds: “Okay, I’m going to apply it.”
Then, I tightened my grip (on Diniz’s neck) and finished.

It was one of those situations that asked for taking advantage of an opportunity that’s being presented:

What I said off the record, to the people on the recording – I wanted the Armbar, obviously.

But if something else came my way, I would end the fight.
