ADCC Champion Yuri Simoes Gets Sidelined By Shoulder Surgery Following Training Injury

Three-time ADCC world champion Yuri Simoes has recently undergone surgery for a shoulder injury sustained during training.

This injury initially occurred at the outset of his preparation for his bout with Nicky Rodriguez, at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5.
Despite the injury, however, Simoes continued his training – only consulting a doctor a few days before the match.

Simoes was informed of the necessity for surgery, but chose to proceed with the match against Rodriguez nevertheless – which he ultimately lost on points.
Reflecting on this decision, Simoes said:

From the very beginning of the match, I knew it was a bad mistake.

After the match, I thought I maybe could fix my shoulder with PT, but after getting the MRI done plus listening to multiple professional opinions, surgery was what I needed to fix this issue.

This victory had set the stage for Simoes to challenge Gordon Ryan for the ADCC superfight…
However, the shoulder surgery and recovery period now cast uncertainty on his preparation for the anticipated match at ADCC 2024 scheduled for August 17 & 18 in Las Vegas:

In my career I have always dealt with people’s disbelief whether it was towards my capacity to win major titles or toward my ability to bounce back from bad injuries.

This isn’t my first rodeo when it comes to injuries and surgery, I’ve been there before many times and I always bounced back, this time will be no different.
