As the 2024 ADCC draws near, all eyes are fixed on Gordon Ryan – the reigning absolute and superfight champion, set to defend his titles.
However, how is he going to do it amidst all the health issues he’d been going through?
John Danaher, Ryan’s coach, recently spoke with ADCC about Ryan and his approach to defending the titles this year…
Emphasizing that it’s more difficult to retain the title than to win it in the first place:
The minute you win, you become one of the most studied people in the world.
Everyone knows everything you do, you become the objective of study.
So, Ryan would have to change his approach and gameplan:
He’s got to move from where he was to project a vision for himself in the future, which people are less familiar with and come out with something unknown, something which surprises people.
Nevertheless, Danaher has full faith in Ryan’s success, especially due to “The King’s” dedication:
Gordon just dedicated his entire life to this craft.
Whereas most people see this as an activity or something fun to do, Gordon had a very immersive approach where he said: “I want to be the best of all time.”
