Hips & Head Position: The Most Important Judo Lesson You Should Know

There’s scarcely any Jiu-Jitsu athlete who doesn’t want to get good at Judo throws. Everyone wants to be able to send other people flying through the air… But learning how to do so can be complicated. It can be difficult and too confusing, as successfully throwing someone with Judo techniques has a lot of components to it.
Luckily enough, you don’t have to learn everything at once. As a matter of fact, you can learn about the most important principles first! And arguably the most important principle you can know about is the hips and head position.

Here’s what John Danaher has to say about it.

PROPER HEAD & ARM POSITION

A lot of Jiu-Jitsu athletes, as Danaher mentions, try to go for the throw by keeping their hips back and their head forward. Unfortunately, this is a lousy tactic. All it does is that it stops you in your movement, shortening it by a substantial margin and, essentially, rendering it useless.
Therefore, your hips should be positioned forward when you go for a throw, and your head should go back. This will all make up for a really successful Judo throw setup – so dedicate yourself to drilling this movement well into your muscle memory!

Watch John Danaher demonstrate this in detail on the video below:
