Cyborg Advocates Progressive Rules: People Are Opening Their Minds Into Making BJJ Grow

It seems like every other week someone is opposing the ruleset, lowering the value of one particular or promoting something specific.

Recently Dillon Danis took some shots at the EBI saying:

“I like the promotion, I like Eddie Bravo a lot but the ruleset is not my favorite. It hurts the pure essence of jiu-jitsu.”

Of course plenty of people disagree but Roberto Cyborg Abreu has a unique point – he claims all these diverging rulesets end up generating interest and allowing bjj to grow. He told flograppling:

“I believe that people are opening their minds into making jiu-jitsu grow professionally. And I think that is the best thing that has been happening lately to jiu-jitsu,” Abreu said.

Of course Cyborg was one of the competitors that was supposed to compete at Eddie Bravo Invitational 6 – Absolutes which ended up falling through.

But now he’s facing a different beast , he’ll be trying his hand at  Grappling Pro Championship. Rules for  Grappling Pro Championship detail separate rounds as well as a different point system.

Having the confidence in different aspects of your game is what gets tested with all these different rules. As Cyborg said:

“I believe that every fighter should be well-rounded,” Abreu said. “I think I can do well, because I’m comfortable in all aspects of jiu-jitsu. I believe I have good wrestling. I can fight on the ground. The more tools you have to present in the game, the better.”

We’ll have a chance to observe Cyborg in this peculiar ruleset this Sunday, December 11th at 1pm Central time on Flograppling. Cyborg’s main adversary for the grappling pro championship heavyweight title will be the ever versatile Vinny Magalhaes!
