(Watch) Palhares Makes Shields Eat His Words, Submits Him with Brutal Kimura

Rousimar Palhares (18-6) retained his WSOF welterweight belt, submitting Jake Shields (31-8-1) with a kimura in Round 3.

The win was controversial as Palhares continued to crank the submission as Shields was tapping repeatedly and referee Steve Mazzagatti tried to pry the Brazilian fighter off Shields. Palhares let go of the hold but Shields was so angry that he even tried to punch Palhares after the stoppage.

Shields did say last week to Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour that he would to teach the Brazilian a lesson:

“I’m not gonna hold a submission too long, because I’m not a dirty fighter,” . “But if I get an armbar, if I get a heel hook or something, I’m gonna grab it and try to crank it as hard as I possibly can and try to break it.”

Shields also said after the fight that Palhares had poked him in the eyes on numerous occasions
