The Emotional Reason Mica Galvao Started Training BJJ: “Jiu-Jitsu Was Something He Never Missed”

At the age of just 20 years old, Mica Galvao is already as a formidable force in the world of Jiu-Jitsu.
And, well, his journey in BJJ began when he was just two years old – a decision he took in order to be closer to his father, Melqui Galvao.

Mica shared the heartfelt reason why he started training Jiu-Jitsu in the “Cage Talk” podcast:

My father didn’t spend much time at home due to his professional commitments.
To stay closer to him, I began practicing Jiu-Jitsu.

I was about two years old at that time, and he was a police officer in the Special Forces, often away on missions for up to a week.
He trained at night, and Jiu-Jitsu was something he never missed.

Eventually, I started attending adult classes, grew to love the sport, and here I am today.

Mica Galvao’s dedication and skill have earned him significant successes in the Jiu-Jitsu world.
He is the reigning middleweight champion of WNO (Who’s Number One) and had also won a silver medal at the 2022 ADCC in the under 77kg category.

His successes, however, have not been without challenges.
In the same year, he was stripped of his IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship title after testing positive for clomifene and its metabolites in an anti-doping test conducted during the competition.
