Roger Gracie Reveals What Sets Gordon Ryan Apart From His Brazilian Opponents

Roger Gracie recently shed light on what he believes sets Gordon Ryan apart from his Brazilian opponents.

During his podcast appearance, Roger explained the reasons behind Ryan’s supremacy in the sport.
A standout factor is Ryan’s rigorous training schedule, which involves twice-daily sessions – a routine he has maintained for over a decade, with the exception of a brief hiatus in Hawaii:

He trains more than anyone. It’s no wonder he’s good.

Roger also acknowledged the significant role of Gordon’s coach, John Danaher, in crafting tailored technical strategies for each athlete.
Yet, he emphasized that it’s Ryan’s personal drive that truly fuels his success.

Roger’s admiration for Gordon’s work ethic was evident further, as he stated:

As long as there’s no one dedicated to that, he won’t win. He won’t.
He’s super dedicated.

He compared Ryan to the featherweight great Marcelo Garcia, noting that both athletes rely on technique over brute force:

If you put 10 kilos on him, it won’t make a difference.
His game will remain a technical game.

While acknowledging the inevitable toll of intense training, Roger was probably unaware of Ryan’s recent health issues – which are expected to sideline him for most of 2024.

Ryan shared more about it in a recent social media post:
