Mayssa Bastos Wins ONE Championship Debut In Dominant Fashion

Mayssa Bastos celebrated a victorious debut in ONE Championship on March 8 – securing a unanimous decision against Kanae Yamada, in what was a highly anticipated match at ONE Fight Night 20.

Entering the ring as an eight-time IBJJF World Champion, Bastos was widely regarded as the favorite due to her dominance in the lighter weight divisions.
She faced off against Yamada, a newcomer to the black belt ranks, but already an accomplished grappler – with a silver medal from the ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials under her belt.

Despite expectations of a one-sided outcome, the match proved to be competitive. Bastos initiated the action by pulling guard and swiftly moving to a Crab Ride position, nearly securing Yamada’s back within the first few minutes.
However, Yamada demonstrated her defensive skils by evading Bastos’ attempts without conceding any points.

Throughout the match, Bastos aggressively pursued various moves, including Berimbolos and leg entanglements; even threatening with Heel Hooks as the match neared its end.

Ultimately, the match concluded with Bastos earning a unanimous decision from the judges, marking a successful debut in the ONE Championship.
