Gordon Ryan recently shared his thoughts on the practicality of boxing in real-life situations.
In a social media post (as reported by BJJDoc), he questioned the effectiveness of boxers outside the ring – pointing out the limitations of boxing as a martial art.
Ryan explained that boxing focuses primarily on punches, lacking the versatility of other martial arts like kickboxing or Muay Thai.
He highlighted the absence of techniques such as elbow strikes, knee strikes, and grappling techniques – all of which are essential when it comes to real-life scenarios and the octagon.
Here’s what he said:
Boxers coming at MMA fighters on social media acting tough is risky.
Boxing is one of the most limited striking arts. It’s all about throwing punches.
There are no elbows, knees, feet, headbutts, spinning attacks, etc.Kickboxers or Thai specialists are better equipped for a real fight.
Even disciplines like Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, judo cover more.Boxers are among the least prepared martial artists for a real fight.
He continued:
Don’t be fooled by boxing fame or success.
It doesn’t necessarily translate to real fighting.MMA fighters are the real deal.
There’s a reason why boxers aren’t taking MMA matches.
