Werdum’s journey in MMA has been marked by lots of successes, including his reign as the UFC heavyweight world champion.
One of his most memorable victories was in 2010, when he submitted the legendary Fedor Emelianenko – therefore ending Emelianenko’s nearly decade-long undefeated streak.
Werdum’s ADCC journey is equally remarkable. It started off with a bang in 2003, when he won a silver medal in the over 99kg division (only losing to Marcio ‘Pe De Pano’ Cruz in the final match).
He made a strong comeback in the absolute division as well, securing a bronze medal by defeating Cruz in the third-place match.
In 2005, Werdum added another bronze medal to his collection, though he didn’t reach the absolute division podium that year.
His persistence paid off in 2007 when he triumphed in the over 99kg division – and again in 2009, successfully defending his title against four challengers.
His final ADCC appearance was in in 2011. He earned the silver medal, having narrowly lost to Vinny Magalhaes.
