The Spider Guard is a very effective type of guard in BJJ and has been heavily used since the late 1980’s.
The spider guard is specific to the gi (kimono) but can also be used in a modified way in No Gi. It requires a strong grip, use of legs leg strength as well as good flexibility.
There are countless aspects of the Spider Guard: the Double Biceps position, progressing to the Leg Lasso, and then the ‘newer’ aspects of the Spider Guards: Spider X, Collar Spider, Reverse de la Riva, etc.
Can’t pass Spider Guard? You’re not alone – it’s not a simple guard to pass… But that doesn’t mean that you have to make it complicated.
