Anyone who drives understands the frustration, stress, and an inexplicable urge to swear while stuck in traffic. Especially when it’s the case of a huge traffic jam; like the one John Danaher had found himself in yesterday.
Professor Danaher hasn’t been driving for around 30 years and he’s recently received his driver’s license. And, as he was driving in Austin (Texas) yesterday, he had a couple of words to share about the whole driving experience:

I finally got my driver’s license here in Texas at age 55 after not having driven a car for around 30-35 years while living in NYC.

Learning to drive every day into work has been a fascinating experience; almost got run off the freeway yesterday by someone changing lanes who must have either been totally blind or extremely drunk/high. At least I know that I’m only the second worst driver in Texas now!

He had his first traffic jam and was perplexed by how people manage to fight with the abovementioned feeling of frustration their whole lives:

Today I had my first real traffic jam with traffic completely stopped for an hour on the freeway. I finally got to experience what all of you have had to deal with your whole lives!
Damn! I’m sure it’s much worse in LA or around NYC but even this Austin jam was pretty bad. And yes, my windshield definitely needs a cleaning. I should have just got out of my vehicle and cleaned it during the hour we sat there.

Hopefully there aren’t too many more morning like this! I definitely admire the patience you all have to deal with this every morning in the big cities around the world.
I’m sitting here waiting for the invention of flying cars to alleviate the problem. Thank god for automatic transmissions!
