Jiu jitsu instructor , 34-year-old Joao Da Silva, was taken away in handcuffs from Raiva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Davie, the martial arts academy he owns and teaches in on Tuesday.
He was reportedly accused of inappropriate conduct with minors:
“Two of the victims alleged that he inappropriately touched their breasts under their bra,” said Davie Police Detective Vivian Gallinal. “Both juvenile victims have been attending the school for approximately three years.”
Da Silva has been charged with lewd and lascivious molestation against two female students, ages 13 and 15. Both victims claim the suspect fondled their breasts during jiu jtsu class.
The victim told detectives this happened about three times a week for the past three years she has taken classes at the center.
Davie police said the 13-year-old provided a sworn, recorded statement, claiming Da Silva had touched her breast under her bra according to local10.
Pierre Kattan, who owns Pierre’s Chandeliers next door to Raiva Jiu Jitsu studio, said his own children trained there.
“He’s been very good — even my own two children train with him. I’m totally shocked at this is news. Unbelievable,” he said.
Investigators said he is also accused in a case involving a 17-year-old girl. However, that incident is being investigated by Hollywood Police and charges are pending.
