BJJ Scout Previews What To Expect Of Maia’s Title Shot

Just yesterday we reported on Demian Maia’s discontent over what might be his shortest camp ever. Still he’s every bit as hopeful that he will manage to secure the title after a big winning streak.

You may have also read that Ben Askren is the one emulating Maia for Woodley touching upon some strategies Maia might use against him.

via Flo Combat:

“The damage is that we’re used to some kind of training camp. In this case, it’s the shortest camp I’ve had since joining the UFC, and it is for the most important fight I’ve ever had here. I accepted the fight because we want to be a champion, [so] we have to plan it out, put in the work and do our best to get there at 100 percent.”

Now BJJScout has opted to weigh in on the situation and give us a very nice preview of what to expect from either side in this bout.

Woodley famously commented that he has no issue taking it to ground on his terms and feels very confident in wrestling:

“I think it’s a great match-up. He’s got 19 victories in the UFC for a reason. I’m trying not to give him too much respect, and to believe in myself. I do have the highest takedown defense in the welterweight division. I do have the second overall. It is very hard to take me down. I am an All-American wrestler with great striking as well. So style-wise, I match up extremely well [with Maia]. His number one way to win this fight would be to get to the ground and try to control me or try to submit me, and just with my boxing and my wrestling, he’s going to have a very hard time getting there.”

It’s also worth noting the bout was upped to co-headline effectively bumping Cyborg’s featherweight title attempt against Evinger.

In the latest clip, famously anonymous bjj scout shines a light on some strategies of what we can expect from either side.
