Andre Galvao Has a Brilliant Way To Escape a Triangle By Standing Up

There are so many ways to defend a triangle choke. You have the early escape, the middle escape and the last chance ‘Hail Mary’ escape.

The great ADCC and BJJ world champion Andre Galvao explains  that in order to defend and ultimately escape from your opponent’s triangle attempt, you will first and foremost need good posture. You will first achieve this by tucking your elbow in  and by cutting at an angle, you can apply pressure on our opponent’s hips making it very difficult for them to lock up the triangle in the right angle.

Galvao also grabs the pants, not allowing  for his arm to sucked in. His back hand also control the hips.

Galvao explains that he likes to stand in order to escape his head and be freed from the triangle.

It’s specially important to be patient when defending and escaping from the triangle and to position your body before backing out and away from your opponent.
