The next stage of the Copa Podio has been scheduled. On May 9, the Heavyweight GP will once again take place in Rio de Janeiro, at Botafogo Gymnasium.
On May 9, MMA star Vinny Magalhães will don his gi for the Copa Podio Heavyweight GP.
The newest feature of the event is free streaming of the event to fans around the world. Simply visits the official Copa Podio website to watch all the action live. (www.copapodio.com). The matches will be screened later on TV channel Combate and also on the Fight Network, covering Canada and the USA.
“We are determined to take jiu-jitsu to the four corners of the world, and our strategy includes finding quality partners in each country to promote Copa Podio, both online and on television”, explains Jeferson Maycá, event director.
The GP card is being finalized, but there is already enough fuel for an explosive showdown: confirmed so far are Felipe Preguiça, Tim Spriggs, Luiz Panza, Erberth Santos and Polish star Maksymilian Wisniewski, winner of the elimination match staged in Warsaw last month.
As from May, Copa Podio will launch a new stage in the no-gi challenges: “From now on the no-gi matches will feature title fights and accreditation matches”, explains Maycá.
On May 9, two titles will be up for grabs in this format: the lightweight title (up to 77 kg/169.8 lbs), between Miltinho Vieira and Goiti Yamauchi, the Bellator beast, and the middleweight title (up to 87 kg/191.8 lbs) between Gregor Gracie and Daniel Moraes. At the event planned for October, world champions Augusto Tanquinho and Fernandinho Vieira will face off to decide the featherweight title (up to 67 kg/147.7 lbs).
The complete card will be announced before the end of March and the GP group draw is planned for the first two weeks of April.
