Marcio ‘Pe De Pano’ Cruz: “The Berimbolo Sucks”

Loved by some and hated by others, the ‘berimbolo’ is the position that dominates the Jiu-Jitsu tournaments nowadays. BJJ legend Márcio “Pé de Pano” Cruz, who is a two time absolute world champion, who was known for having an excellent guard game, was very crutical of the move in an interview with tatame, the black belt explains that he is against all positions used to halt the fighting:

“The berimbolo sucks. The guy does it to arrive in 50-50 guard. I am not against the position, unless it is used to hold the game. If you use to pass, cool. In no sport in the world you can sit still for so long, without being warned. ”

Pe de Pano and his students in the States

Pé de Pano, accompanied his students from his academy, and observed and praised the heavier athletes responsible for making the game more dynamic. The athlete also noted that formerly were “levinhos” that provided the clashes filled with agility.

“I’ve been in this year’s edition of the Worlds and found the level very high. The only annoying thing is that 10 or 12 years ago, when you watched roosters, feather and down, the guys were making the show, while the fights of heavyweights were slower and with more stalling. Today, the opposite happens, and we have the heavy weights (Marcus) Buchecha and Rodolfo (Vieira) playing a forward and exciting game. “
