Big Stars Confirmed for Grand Slam Rio: Biggest BJJ Event Ever Held in South America

 

We’re only a few days away from the biggest Jiu-Jitsu tournament ever held in South America: The Grand Slam Rio.
This will be the stage of another fantastic event brought you by UAEJJF.

On 5th and 6th of December, the prestigious HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will host the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Tour – RJ.  The expectation surrounding the event is huge, much because of their organization – held by UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and because of the prizes – awards – which will be a total of $ 63,000 – and because of the venue chosen to host the competition

The HSBC Arena is considered the largest concert hall in Rio de Janeiro, with a maximum capacity of 18,000 people.  The HSBC Arena was inaugurated for the Pan American Games in 2007 and since then is constantly home to big shows, with names like Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Guns n ‘Roses, Elton John, among others. The arena also staged five editions of the UFC, one with attendance record, beating 16,853 people. Now, for the first time, the site will get a BJJ event, of worldwide recognition, and promises to thrill present with high-profile fights and a real spectacle.

The event will feature BJJ stars such as Ricardo Evangelista, Paulo & Joao Miyao, Erberth Santos, Celso Vinicius, Carlos Holanda, Gustavo Elias, Isaque Paiva, Jaime Canuto, Vinicius Marinho, Thales Leite etc….

The main responsible for bringing this event to Brazil – and previously to cities such as Tokyo and Los Angeles – is Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and founder of UAEJJF (Jiu-Jitsu Federation UAE) . Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed, is in love with Jiu-Jitsu, and has already set up Jiu-Jistu as the No. 1 sport in more than 500 schools in the UAE.

For the 2015/2016 season, the UAEJJF will be implementing 4 grand slam tournaments outside the UAE, paying out large cash prizes for each open class, and for the black belt adult male weight classes.

Grand Slams will be held in : Tokyo (already held), Los Angeles (already held), Rio de Janeiro and London.

Apart from the grand slams, there will also be around 15 to 20 National Pro Events all around the world, for travel packages to the UAEJJF World Pro main event in April 2016 in Abu Dhabi.

There will also be an official ranking, giving out money to brown/black belt at the end of the year.
