In the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, few names resonate as profoundly as the celebrated Wellington “Megaton” Dias.
He’s been a top competitor for years – and has maintained and improved his technical level with each passing day.
But how does he manage to do this after spending so much time on the mats?
Megaton explained in an interview with the IBJJF:
I think the consistency in training, the consistency in tournaments, studying the art, keeping in touch with my Master, and exchanging ideas with friends all help me keep a high technical level even at my age.
He hopes to keep competing for as long as possible:
The goal is to keep competing to do what I love to do.
Like I always say: Do what you love, love what you do.Jiu-Jitsu is my life.
And how has the competition scene changed ever since Megaton first started competing?
Well, in his words – tremendously:
Man, it’s tremendous. The growth of Jiu-Jitsu is unbelievable.
We’re at the point that we have two, three, four tournaments in the same weekend in different parts of the world.
How crazy is that? I love it.I believe this is a reflection of the growing number of practitioners of Jiu-Jitsu around the world.
