Weekend Recap: AJP Promotes High-Level Tournaments In The Netherlands, Peru, And Kazakhstan

Following its traditional schedule, the AJP has once again promoted a weekend filled with stellar competitions, allowing athletes from all over the world to earn ranking points while they honed their Jiu-Jitsu in the organization’s internationally recognized mats.

This time around, the Netherlands, Peru, and Kazakhstan hosted their own events, so let’s check out the highlights from each championship!

AJP Tour Amsterdam International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Mojahed Naim conquers the double gold in the Netherlands

On Saturday, February 17th, the Topsport Center Almere welcomed athletes of all ages and graduations for an afternoon of competition. While every fighter that stood in those mats is worthy of praise in their own right, the Professional brown belt Mojahed Naim (PSLPB Cícero Costha) earned his recognition by conquering the coveted double gold.

Representing Belgium, Mojahed started his campaign at the 77kg division, leaving no room for doubts when it came to his skills as he first submitted the Irish Shahin Afshar (East Coast Jiu Jitsu Academy), and then scored 8-2 against Cyprus’ Stavros Kylilis (Aspida Team Renzo Gracie) to advance to the final. In the gold round, Mojahed once again asserted his dominance as he submitted Ireland’s Noah Dundon (East Coast Jiu Jitsu Academy) to climb the podium for the first time that day.

Still hungry for more, Mojahed took it upon himself to compete in the Black Belt Open Lightweight division, effectively standing among the elite of the sport. His confidence proved well placed, as he went toe-to-toe against the Brazilian Absolão Perez Silva (Checkmat International) and emerged victorious with a submission to take the gold.

AJP Tour Lima International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Local black belts Enrique Chaluja and Luís Del Carpio conquer the gold in Peru

On both days of the weekend, the Universidad Usil Pachacamac opened its doors to welcome warriors from all over the world as they entered the fray and left their hearts on the mats to seek another victory in the AJP. Among the victors, two local black belts showed amazing performances and rose to their rightful place atop the podium.

On the first day, Enrique Chaluja (Calasans BJJ) put on his gi and made his way to the 85 kg division, where he would fight to taste victory in his home country. Standing across the battlefield, the Colombian Camilo Betancourt (Gracie Barra Colombia) was ready to spoil Enrique’s plans, but the latter gave the latter no room for comfort, dominating the entire duel and closing the scoreboard at a sound 8-0 to seize the gold medal.

On the second and last day of the competition, a no-gi battle between brothers had the attending crowd in awe. In the Master 1 94kg division, Luis and Christian Del Carpio left their familial bonds at the edge of the mats and clashed with the gold on the line. Despite both fighting for Marra Senki Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Luis quickly took control of the match and gave his brother almost no chance to fight back, scoring again and again until the clock ran out. At the end of it all, Luis Del Carpio became the division champion with a whopping 14-1 score.

AJP Tour Astana International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Pedro Marques and Thiago Rocha conquer the gold in Kazakhstan

Across the world on that same weekend, the Beeline Arena in Astana received colored and black belts as they sought those sweet ranking points and the glory of being called a champion in the AJP. A standout in the tournament, the Brazilian black belt Pedro Marques (Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club) donned his gi and stepped on the battlefield to face the local Aibar Orazaly (Satti Lux Stroy) for the Professional 77kg division title.

The battle was not an easy one, as neither of the competitors allowed themselves to be submitted. Over the course of the five regulated minutes, Pedro and Aibar went full throttle at each other in a balanced match, but the former managed to find a gap in the latter’s defense and used that opportunity to put himself ahead on the scoreboard. By the time the clock ran out, Pedro Marques rose as the 77kg division champion with a 2-0 score.

Meanwhile, the Master 1 category was represented by Thiago Rocha (A.F.N.T), who made his way to the 94kg bracket ready to fight tooth-and-nail for the gold. Facing Luciano Silva (AS Mansur Team Academy) for the gold, Thiago unleashed the full might of his game, offering no quarter for his opponent and controlling the flow of the match from beginning to end. When it was all said and done, an 8-0 score landed Thiago atop the division podium.
