A recently resurfaced clip of a grappling match – featuring UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria – has become viral in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community.
After an unbeaten streak and winning the Cage Warriors championship, Topuria entered the UFC arena back in 2020 – quickly climbing the ranks.
And, after a number of impressive victories against tough opponents, he ultimately earned a shot at the featherweight title – winning it in a match against Alexander Volkanovski, at UFC 298.
But what many don’t know is that Topuria’s journey to MMA was rooted in Jiu-Jitsu – which he started training after his father introduced him to the sport, when he was just 4 years old.
Additionally, he began training Greco-Roman wrestling when he was just 7.
Check out the recently revealed footage of young Ilia Topuria in a BJJ match – on the following link, as provided by BJJDoc.
