Russia’s Ali Magomedov Shocks The World: Taps Bruno Frazatto at ACBJJ

ACBJJ had a much buzzed about edition of the event over the weekend. However while results of the main event were fairly predictable what nobody could’ve predicted was a big upset that happened.

Russia’s Ali Magomedov submitted a former world silver medalist, Bruno Frazatto during their match.

Many may have never heard of Ali Magomedov but he has been active at lower belts in the IBJJF and UAEJJF circuits, notably winning the IBJJF Europeans in 2015 as a purple belt. He also frequently competed at ACBJJ over the years.

Ali is an instructor at 187 BJJ in Moscow- He is the first and only black belt under Leonid Gatovskiy  (first black belt in Russia- he got it from Renzo Gracie in 2013.).

Frazatto is nowhere near past his prime, as he is only 34 years of age. Just last year he defeated Geo Martinez and Gabriel Marangoni.

Here is the match:

5x World BJJ champion Bernardo Faria has developed the No Gi Half Guard. His submissions and sweeps works just as easily for No Gi, if not easier.
1.In No Gi there are not as many grips you can play. For example, you can’t play spider guard and the whole array of guards that stem from it. His guard works perfectly.
2.There are not a lot of grips your opponent can use to stop your sweep while playing No Gi. They can’t grab your collar, sleeve or pants obviously. Again, his guard works perfectly.
