Roger Gracie Top Of Buchecha’s List Of Most Influential BJJ Players

Marcus Buchecha is the tog dog in Jiu-Jitsu today. He ties Roger Gracie with the number of absolute title wins (at black belt) with three. The black belt is already touted as the leading candidate to be the best of all time.

In an interview with tatame, Buchecha commented on the return of the legend Roger Gracie to the mats (scheduled to return next year to Jiu-Jitsu competitions):

“If Roger comes back, it will be interesting, but it will be one more competitor in the division out of so many other tough guys. There is no guarantee that we will face each other, I might lose before, or he loses. It could be his day, my, Rodolfo, Bernardo … But it would be interesting to have him back. It would be cool. “

The two of course have already met back in Metamoris in 2012. The result was a draw although many feel that Buchecha dominated as he had two very close submissions locked in. Roger had come back back from a staph infection and hadn’t been competing in Jiu-Jitsu for 2 years back then.

Buchecha also revealed who were the top BJJ players he admired growing up. Guess who tops his list:

Roger Gracie – Biggest name in the history of Jiu-Jitsu, “Rojão” was responsible for encouraging the generation of new athletes, including Buchecha.

“It is impossible not to speak of him. The guy has ten world titles. He inspired me, as well as many in Jiu-Jitsu. “

Ronaldo Jacare – The black belt has won a title with the broken arm and his will marked Buchecha on the mats.

“He has a complete Jiu-Jitsu , and is explosive. The pace at which he enters the fights always impressed me. “

Marcelo Garcia – Five-time world champion at middleweight, the Alliance athlete is the record holder in his class.

“I always enjoy seeing his fights. He has a classic Jiu-Jitsu. “

Leonardo Vieira – World Champion and two-time ADCC champion , the black belt from Checkmat has his own style.

“He does a lot of acrobatics, moves fast, always with a beautiful game.”

Rodrigo Cavaca – is a sort of “father” to Buchecha.

“I trained a lot with him. When I started, He was already a top competitor. I cannot fail to mention my master. “
