In a recent interview leading up to their highly anticipated match at a UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6 event, Nicholas Meregali didn’t hold back his thoughts about his opponent – Matheus Diniz.
That is, Meregali openly accused Diniz of resorting to performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) to prepare for their bout.
He said:
He looks huge.
So I think he took a lot of gear to compete.
Despite these allegations, Meregali remained undeterred and confident in his strategy for the match.
He outlined his game plan:
This card is gonna be terrible. I’m gonna tie him up in 4, 5 minutes, and then start working my techniques, build up the pace and then take him down, pin him, and get the submission
Sure enough, Meregali won the match; securing the top position and ultimately winning with a Rear Naked Choke.

Which might be one of the reasons why Meregali seemed somewhat unsatisfied while finishing the choke during the last seconds of the match.
