The North American Grappling Association (NAGA) has recently updated its transgender policy.
As a reminder, this is what their policy stated about transgender athletes entering competitions until October 28, 2023, saying that:
This policy aims to strike a balance between accommodating the needs of transgender athletes and respecting the preferences of all participants in ensuring fair and inclusive competition at NAGA events.
And now, as of October 28, 2023, their policy has been updated to emphasize that there will be a “division for the cisgender athletes”, as well as a simple division option for transgender females:
We, as an organization, strive to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and respect for all competitors within our events. With regards to transgender females competing in NAGA, the following policy shall be implemented:
Division for Cisgender Females:
We will have divisions for only cisgender females. Transgender females will not be entered into these divisions.
Division Options for Transgender Females:
Transgender females must compete in the men’s division.
We hope that the simplicity of this revised policy will help to avoid any future occurrences where transgender females enter women divisions. If NAGA staff is informed that a transgender female is in a women’s division, they will be given the choice to go to the men’s division or given a refund.
