Kaynan Duarte Emerges Victorious at Polaris 25, Earns $30,000; Former UFC Champion Triumphs in Superfight

Polaris 25, held in Wales, United Kingdom last Saturday (30), showcased a highly anticipated absolute GP with eight skilled athletes, touted as the “most lucrative prize in European grappling history” by the organization. Kaynan Duarte, recognized as one of the leading figures in Jiu-Jitsu today, solidified his status as the tournament’s ultimate champion, claiming the grand prize of US$30,000.

With an impressive track record of two ADCC championships and three IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) world championships, Kaynan Duarte secured the absolute GP title by defeating the formidable black belt Fabricio Andrey with a rear-naked choke. Prior to that, the Atos Jiu-Jitsu athlete had triumphed over Izaak Mitchell and Jason Ray during his campaign at Polaris 25.

Apart from Kaynan Duarte and Fabricio Andrey, the Polaris 25 absolute GP showcased other notable athletes, including Giancarlo Bodoni, an ADCC champion, Roberto Jimenez, a Polaris champion, ADCC veteran Izaak Mitchell, and Judo star Owen Livesey, among others.

Former UFC Champion Prevails in Superfight

Aljamain Sterling, the former UFC champion who recently suffered a knockout defeat against Sean O’Malley in a bantamweight title fight at UFC 292 in August, was another highly anticipated attraction at Polaris 25. Sterling engaged in a superfight against English athlete Mike Grundy, who also possessed experience in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and emerged victorious based on the judges’ decision. Notably, the event was broadcasted on UFC Fight Pass, the exclusive platform overseen by Dana White, allowing Sterling’s participation in Polaris.
