Ryan and Gaudio have already faced against each other once before. It was about five years ago, in the quarterfinals of the absolute division at the 2018 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship.
And it was one of the toughest matches for Ryan in his career. He won, though only by advantage:
Gordon Ryan has been in and out of competition for some time, due to his ongoing stomach issues.
However, it appears that he has been training consistently for some time now. And that he will be more than ready for the WNO match.
For example, Ryan recently praised Nicholas Meregali – who earned a dominant win against Kaynan Duarte in the most recent Who’s Number One (WNO) event.
He said that there’s no one in the world who can beat his teammate, both in gi and no-gi:
He came out, out wrestled, took down, passed, mounted, and finished Kaynan.
I see the work he puts in day in and day out, and he deserves this.
Flawless performance from start to finish and I couldn’t be happier for him. There is no one in the world who can beat him with or without the gi right now.
