Duarte Reveals Stunning Details About Galvao’s Knee Injury Before ADCC 2022 Match With Ryan

Kaynan Duarte recently opened up about the much-discussed ADCC 2022 superfight – between his coach Andre Galvao and Gordon Ryan.
Namely, Duarte revealed that Galvao entered the bout while suffering a knee injury.

In a conversation with the “Connect Cast” podcast, Duarte recalled advising Galvao against competing – arguing that the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend had nothing left to prove:

He (Galvao) trained like hell, but he injured his knee.

I told him he didn’t need to fight, to be honest.
Without wanting to discourage him, I said that if it were me, he wouldn’t fight.

He didn’t need to prove anything to anyone anymore, his knee was injured and he was no longer at his peak, whether he wanted to or not, he was no longer at his peak of physical fitness.

But Galvao went into it anyway:

He showed that even though he didn’t need it and was hurt, he took away positive things, it was valid.

Their ADCC 2022 superfight culminated with Ryan securing the victory via the Rear Naked Choke.
Following the defeat, Galvao retired, while Ryan is currently on a health-related hiatus from the sport.
