If you’ve been training for a while… Can you remember all of the people that started training, only to fall off the wagon along the way?
Some of them trained with you for quite some time as well. And yet, they gave up.
Sure, everyone has their reasons and everyone has the right to choose for themselves. But you know it yourself that BJJ has given you a lot so far.
Tom DeBlass knows this well. As he prepares for the 18th anniversary of his academy, he shared a heartfelt post via social media:
It’s wild to think how much time has gone by and how many memories have been made.
I have promoted many people to Black belts, and many are still training.
Unfortunately, some are not.I will say with 100% certainty, however, there has been not one person that left Jiu-Jitsu that I ran into and thought to myself, “Wow, they are doing so much better without Jiu-Jitsu!”
Jiu-Jitsu is hard, but Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most rewarding things in the world.
DeBlass continues to emphasize the importance of consistency:
It’s wild to think about how many people have fell off over the years.
One thing is certain, regardless who falls off, I continue to grow, my Academy continues to grow, and the sun continues to rise.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
