The Best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academies in Rio De Janeiro

The Best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academies in Rio De Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is an amazing city. It is very easy to fall in love with it, and many people call it Cidade Maravilhosa, which means a wonderful city. Rio is a city of contrasts, where wealth meets extreme poverty, but it is a Mecca for all Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners. Great weather, the ocean, the best clubs in the world and acai. What more could you want? Which BJJ club to choose in Rio de Janeiro?

Rio de Janeiro is one of the favorite destinations of all jiu-jiteiros. Football, BJJ, coffee, carnival and beaches of Copacabana or Ipanema. There’s no better connection. Rio de Janeiro is a much more popular city than the huge Sao Paulo, where you can also find many strong GYMs (e.g. Melqui Galvao).

Strolling through Rio de Janeiro, we will find a lot of local academies, as well as many grapplers returning from training in kimonos through the crowded streets of Copacabana. Below is a list of BJJ clubs in Rio de Janeiro.

One of the best academies in Rio de Janeiro. The venue is located in the Copacabana district and is one of the most visited academies in Rio de Janeiro. The school run by Ricardo Vieira has a huge number of activities for visitors (also in the No-Gi option).

2. Alliance Rio de Janeiro

The headquarters of Alliance is located in the Leblon district. It is considered one of the richest in Rio, the seat of Alexandre Gigi Paiva.

3. GF Team

HQ GF Team. Academy led by Julio Cesar, who is the coach of many of the best Brazilian grapplers. The Academy is located in the central part of Rio de Janeiro, so it will be a good idea for those who do not stay in the most expensive districts of Rio – Copacabana or Ipanema.

4. Gracie Barra

Gracie Barra BJJ class

Gracie Barra in Rio de Janeiro used to be the club’s headquarters (before moving to California). Classes are taught by Professor Jefferson Moura, and the club is located in Zona Oeste (western areas of Rio). Recently, Gracie Barra has opened offices in Copacabana and Botafogo.

5. RFT Botafogo

The Botafogo district is also home to one of the best No-Gi clubs. Luta Livre classes are available at RFT Botafogo, and many say it’s the best place to train without kimonos in Rio.

6. Carlson Gracie

Another academy located outside of Copacabana. Carlson Gracie’s headquarters are located near the Flamengo district, more precisely in Laranjeiras. Classes are taught by Professor Marcelo Saporito.

7. De La Riva BJJ HQ

Everyone knows this guard, but not everyone knows that Ricardo De La Riva runs his school in Copacabana. The school can also be found under the name Equipe 1.

8. Academia Fernando Terere

One of the most interesting places in Rio de Janeiro. The world champion and an amazing figure in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu runs his school in Ipanema. The school is known for being a great place for kids to choose the BJJ path instead of the dangerous favela life, and Terere is a great example for them.Take a look at our Instagram account , where in the coming weeks there will be a report from several BJJ clubs in Rio de Janeiro. Watch now if you haven’t already🙂
