Demian Maia might be finally getting his case heard for the Welterweight title. The bout between Woodley and Maia is set to go down at UFC 214 in Anaheim, California and will be headlined by DC vs Jon Jones.
Helwani first reported:
UFC rushed to do Woodley-Maia in July so they could have winner fight GSP at MSG. 214 is amazing, but I feel for Maia: deserved more time.

Ariel is referring to Maia’s request for some time off following his victory over Jorge Masvidal just over a month ago at UFC 211. Speaking to reporters at the post-event press conference, Maia noted his summer schedule was already packed full with responsibilities. In addition to this he recently stressed how important recovery is at his age.
But apparently a shot at the 170 pound belt (and possibly Georges St Pierre ) was enough to get him to sign on the dotted line for UFC 214.
“Georges and I talked a couple days ago when he was in Vegas,” White said in an exclusive interview at UFC headquarters to mmajunkie. “Georges is saying he wants to fight; we’ll get this thing figured out. We’re talking about Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia. These two are going to fight soon. That will free up the 170-pound champion for Georges St-Pierre to return and try to regain his belt.”
