Keenan Cornelius is one of the most important innovators in bjj today. He is constantly working on different guards and making variations. His latest work is based around the worm guard integration into the deep half system producing an extremely powerful sweep.
The technique is actually a back take option from the deep half guard. In order to start applying the technique you have to get into deep half guard.
Cornelius thinks the easiest way to get into this position is by sitting up in open guard and grabbing behind the knee:
From this position it is very easy to grab onto the opponents lapel
From there you pass the lapel to your right hand.
You should worry about your left hand however because there’s ample opportunity to get it attacked. Cornelius recommends hiding the left arm underneath the opponents leg which is trapped.
In addition to securing your arm this also makes it a tad tighter on the opponent’s leg.
Now you pass the lapel to your hidden arm and either grab it with both hands or with one.
The important bit for the next part is to now get your top foot underneath the opponent’s ankle.
Now you pass the lapel under the right foot.
