While there were many victors of World Championship 2017 – the organizers themselves were questioned by a multitude of athletes, coaches and spectators.
Much of the attention was turned toward Buchecha who managed to secure quite a landmark winning his 5th division title as well as absolute equaling Roger Gracie’s record of 10 World Titles.
Still one athlete who was prepared to publicly voice her displeasure with the organization is 5x World Champion Gabi Garcia.
“World record holder in titles in a category. If the absolute champion receives a trophy, it is fair the greatest champion also receive, IBJJF. Motivate the true idols, ” Garcia wrote on instagram

This title is something special to me as every title is. Though this time around things were a little different leading up to this moment. Pan Ams was going to be my last tournament before my first MMA fight in July but after competing I decided to continue on and compete at Worlds.
It was very challenging to train two camps and seven days per week but knew it was a task I could achieve.
Definitely worth it!
