As we all know Jiu-Jitsu practice requires a partner and mats. However your BJJ academy might be currently closed you may miss some time on the mats. In this video Alec Baulding shows some great BJJ core drills that can be done with just a BJJ jacket.
Using a Gi jacket is a great tool for your legs to help strengthen your open guard game and introduce you to the basics of Spider Guard and De la Riva set up. Building your muscle memory with the basic movements and fundamentals of these positions is very important to develop.
Developing this Gi jacket drill will help you understand to keep constant contact at all times and vary the amount of pressure you use to help move smoothly.
Baulding uses these Gi jacket drills both as a warm up at the beginning or a warm down at the end of his workout. You will get a great sweat and work your core too.
Baulding stated:
Some cool solo drills that everyone can do. This started off as a fun video but after playing around for a bit. These drill were actually really tough. Testing the endurance of my core as well as my mobility getting in and out of the shallow/deep lasso. So if you really miss training. With a bit of visualization, you can really simulate what it feels like to roll with a tough opponent. Hope you guys enjoy and continue to stay safe wherever you are.
