Clark Gracie is famous for his amazing jiu-jitsu and equally good looks. However when the tables got turned and his girlfriend got some unwanted attention he stepped right up to the plate.
However Clark has been aware that bjj was the best thing to defend yourself from the time he was a toddler – his father taught him and his sister some basic moves when they were 4.
He told shouldersofgiants.com:
When I was 4 years old I remember my dad was teaching me and my sister the rear naked choke and the osoto gari takedown, just to make sure that no one messed with us in school.
He also talked about the time he had to apply bjj in a street type situation saying:
Yes, when I was 17 in San Francisco I had a guy about 25 who was doing sexual gestures to this body while he was looking at me and my girlfriend. I asked him, “Hey man what’s your problem?” He said, “I like your bitch.” A little after he was at the top of an escalator that I was going up and he was waiting for me at the top and wanted to fight me.
So when I got to the top I used the momentum of the escalator and shot in for a double leg take-down and then I got to the mount position. He was trying to hit me from the bottom and then he ripped my new shirt!
That’s when I started punching him in the face. He then turned to his stomach to avoid the punches, so I choked him out unconscious. I then got up and immediately ran away with my girlfriend. I never want to fight on the streets, but that day I couldn’t avoid the situation.
