Buchecha Explains Why He Gave Lo The Absolute Gold At Worlds

Buchecha has had a turbulent year, still he has proved he has much heart when he opted to give the openweight title to his friend Leandro Lo.

Still many were unsure of the rationale for the decision – this is why Buchecha himself explained:

During a interview a few years ago, I was asked what motivated me? I remember I was caught by surprise and did not know how to answer, with time I found the answer. What motivates me is to do something that was never done before, and because unique in something. Of course this was one of the things that motivated me during this camp but not the only one.

With the wining of my 11 • world title on the blackbelt I felted exactly like that, another dream was realized after so many years fighting.

And I had the opportunity to close the open division with my brother @leandrolojj, a lot of people do not know but in 2016 we supposed to fight in the semi final of the worlds absolute and he gave me the spot, so I went straight to the final in my first competition after my knee surgery.

Jiu jitsu taught me a lot during life and gave me everything I have including great friendship and the chance to live out of the sport.

I’d like to thank everyone that they were always on my side since I started the sport and were part of my history, thank you all that support and cheer with my victories either in life or on the mats.
Of course I could not forget to thank my parents, because without them I could not have got where I got and were my biggest motivators, fans and my heroes.

Thank you to all my team mates @checkmathq and my coach @leovieirabjj for always been with me and on my side in every moment. Thank you all my sponsors for believing in me and making my dream a reality.

“Believe in yourself and you will see that it is impossible.”

Alexandre Vieira is one of the most exciting up and coming grapplers today under the Brazilian Top Team flag.  In 2017, his loop choke submission was chosen as the Submission of the Year by FloGrappling. Alexandre recently put together his Crucifix and Loop Choke 3 volume instructional set.  Alexandre brings a modern outlook to some of the sports most devastating, but sometimes ignored positions, the crucifix and the loop choke.
