Match recap from our play by play:

This one is going to be exciting. The bad blood is real between these two. AJ with some heavy pummelling. Aj shoots for a takedown, Shields stuffs it and falls back in a tight arm in guillotine, AJ Escapes! Jake with heavy pressure passing now, passes the guard and gets mount, takes the back. Its all Jake right now. Aj gets back on his feet and Jake Stockton slaps him twice in the face! The match is stopped to cool everybody down. This is a great match. They are going at it very hard. Dirty match, bordering on strikes. Jake hunting for chokes. This is rough Jiu-Jitsu. Jake mounts AJ again now. Time runs out. AJ puts out his hand to be shaked but Jake slaps him again! Jakes calls AJ a bitch and a pussy on the mic. A fight almost breaks up.

Shieds stated:

“This guy was talking crap the whole time, gouging my eyes,” Shields said. I just had my eye gouged for the first time in my life my last fight and now you got this prick doing the same thing. He was bragging yesterday, ‘I’m gonna try and make it a draw, I’m gonna try to make it a draw. I know I can’t beat you, but if I can make it a draw I’m gonna consider that a win.’ Well, congratulations A.J. You’re a bitch. How does it feel to be a pussy and get your draw?”

There was already a lot of bad blood between the two before the fight. Many thought that they were just hyping the fight but it seems that it was real.

After Polaris was over, AJ Agazarm released a statement on his Facebook page asking for Shields to apologise to the Grappling community:

As a member of the grappling community, I apologize for Jake Shields’ behavior…..

I know I’m speaking for everyone here when I call upon you to apologize for your unsportsmanlike behaviour, and to admit you were wrong….
